Data recovery services in Kolkata
When a drive, array or phone stops giving up its data, the first hour of decisions usually decides the outcome.
What to do before you call anyone
Stop using the device. Every additional write reduces what can be recovered, and repeated power cycling of a mechanically failing drive can turn a routine job into an impossible one. If a drive is clicking, grinding or spinning up and down, power it off and leave it off.
Do not run consumer recovery utilities on a drive with a hardware fault. They read the same failing surfaces repeatedly and often write their own temporary files onto the very volume you are trying to save.
If the data lives on a RAID array, do not rebuild, re-initialise or force an array online. A rebuild onto a second failing member is one of the most common ways an otherwise recoverable array becomes unrecoverable.
How we evaluate and what recovery involves
Evaluation begins with identifying whether the fault is logical, electronic or mechanical. Logical failures such as deleted partitions, corrupted file systems and formatted volumes are handled by imaging the device read-only and reconstructing structures from the copy, never from the original.
Electronic failures may need controller-level work or adaptive data recovery from the drive firmware area. Mechanical failures involving head or platter damage require a controlled clean environment and donor parts matched to the exact model and firmware revision.
For solid state drives the picture differs: wear levelling, TRIM and controller-level encryption mean that recovery depends heavily on the controller family and on how quickly the device was taken out of service.
RAID, NAS and server recoveries
Array recoveries are as much analysis as engineering. We image every member drive individually, then determine stripe size, block order, parity rotation and which member dropped out first, because rebuilding with a stale member produces a file system that mounts and returns corrupted files.
Virtual machine datastores, database volumes and mail stores add another layer, since a recovered file is only useful if the database inside it is consistent. We verify at application level rather than declaring success when a file copies.
Recovered data is returned on media you supply or media we provide, with a file listing so you can confirm what came back before the original is released.
Confidentiality, ransomware and honest expectations
Client media is handled under a written confidentiality undertaking, stored securely and wiped from our systems after an agreed retention period. For legal or insurance matters we can maintain a chain of custody record.
Ransomware cases are triaged differently. Where encryption was implemented correctly the files themselves cannot be reversed, so the work becomes recovering shadow copies, backup remnants, unencrypted staging data and whatever the attacker missed, alongside incident containment.
We give a candid assessment after evaluation, including the cases where recovery is unlikely. A recovery house that promises everything before opening the device is guessing. Where another laboratory is better equipped for your specific failure mode, we will say so rather than take the job.
What you get with data recovery
- Initial diagnosis identifying logical, electronic or mechanical failure
- Read-only forensic imaging of the source media before any recovery work
- Written quote and recoverability assessment before chargeable work begins
- File listing for your review prior to delivery
- Recovered data returned on supplied or provided media
- Application-level verification for database, mail and virtual machine data
- Written confidentiality undertaking and secure media handling
- Post-recovery advice on backup design so it does not happen twice

FAQ
Data Recovery: questions we are asked
Cost depends on the failure type. A logical recovery from a healthy drive with a damaged file system sits at the low end. Mechanical failures needing clean-environment work and donor parts, and multi-drive RAID reconstructions, cost considerably more. You get a fixed quote after evaluation and before any chargeable work starts.
Often yes, but only if the drive is powered off immediately. Clicking usually indicates head or actuator failure, and every further power-up risks scoring the platters. Do not run recovery software on it. Bring or ship the drive as it is, and let the evaluation determine whether donor heads are needed.
Sometimes, and it is less predictable than on mechanical drives. Wear levelling and TRIM can discard data soon after deletion, and controller-level encryption can make raw chip reads useless without the controller. Recovery odds improve sharply if the drive is removed from service immediately, so stop writing to it.
Evaluation and the resulting quote come first, and we tell you honestly what the odds are before you commit. Where a case is clearly unrecoverable we say so rather than billing for effort. Any parts, donor media or clean-environment costs are set out in the quote so there are no surprises.
Properly implemented ransomware encryption cannot be reversed without the key, so recovery focuses on shadow copies, backup remnants, unencrypted staging areas and systems the attacker did not reach. We combine that with containment so the environment is clean before anything is restored. We do not facilitate ransom payments.
